A Letter From Our Founder

Dear Friends,

There are moments in life that redefine who we are. For me, that moment came with a cancer diagnosis. It was a journey that tested me in every way—physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I faced not only the weight of illness but also the overwhelming challenge of navigating treatment, healing, and finding a sustainable path forward. Through it all, one truth became clear: there had to be a better way.

I knew that healing required more than just medical treatment. It required knowledge, support, and a holistic approach that nurtured both body and mind. Yet, I also saw how many people struggled to access these vital resources. That’s why I founded the Sand Dollar Foundation—a mission rooted in hope, healing, and empowerment.

Our foundation exists to provide education, resources, and lifestyle medicine programs to those who need them most—often at little to no cost. We believe that healing should never be a privilege; it should be possible for everyone. Through evidence-based wellness education, community support, and transformational lifestyle initiatives, we help individuals reclaim their health, renew their spirit, and rewrite their future.

If you or someone you love is seeking guidance, please know that you are not alone. There is hope, and there are resources available to help you live a vibrant, fulfilling life—without financial barriers standing in your way.

Together, let’s heal, grow, and thrive.

With love and gratitude,

Mellanie Smith

Why a Sand Dollar?

A sand dollar is rich in symbolism, often associated with themes of peace, transformation, and resilience.

Its intricate structure, with a star-like pattern at its center, is reminiscent of a flower or a guiding star, representing hope and renewal.

Sand dollars are also tied to the cycles of life — as they wash ashore, they carry the reminder of both the beauty and fragility of life’s journey.
